Kandalu ImageBrain

Kandalu ImageBrain In this tutorial we will go over on how to use some of the new features in ImageBrain. Please keep in mind that at the time of this video this product is currently in beta & does not represent the finished product. What this program allows you to do if to locate duplicates of the same image on your computer or external hard drives that may be connected to your machine. What makes this program different in the way that it works compared to other duplicate finders is that not only does it locate the same image but it does it regardless of name or file extension, by using the identification technology (PSNR-K).

Turbo.264 HD vs Turbo.264

Turbo.264 HD vs Turbo.264 Here we will review both the Turbo.264 & Turbo.264 HD as to speed & quality of encodes. We will be using a 6 min vob file & converting it to Apple TV format. Let’s see which is faster.

As with the new updates to the turbo.264 HD it now supports encoding to 1080p & 720p which is great for folks that want those hi res videos. Currently the new version also takes advantage or your systems cpu along with it’s own hardware encoder to speed up the process of encoding your files. Some folks may not like that idea to much but in order to take advantage of those 1080 & 720p encodes it’s a must. Which is why the previous version of the Elgato turbo.264 had so many limitations when it came to encoding.

Have Fun & Enjoy.

MAC: Convert DVD to .VOB

MAC: Convert DVD to .VOB Here is a quick tip in order to convert your DVD’s to a .vob file. This is a great way to archive your movies to use with Toast to burn to DVD, or to play on your PS3 so long as you keep it under 4GB due to the FAT32 file system limit. Both of these programs are about $50 in price & offer many different options as to what you can do with them.
iTunes: Organize Playlist

iTunes: Organize Playlist Here is a quick tip in order to help keep your ever growing playlist to a minimum while viewing them in iTunes. We will be creating folders then moving the playlist into them even can be done with your smart playlist as well.

If your looking for a more automated way of doing this then I recommend using a apple script from Doug’s Apple Scripts for iTunes. I will provide the link to it via his site.

Connect: Final Cut Pro and ADVC-300

Connect: Final Cut Pro and ADVC-300 This tutorial we shall be going over on how to connect your ADVC-300 or similar device to your computer running Final Cut Pro, in order to capture your video. In my example I am using a Sony VHS to DVD Recorder, but in most cases you may be using a regular VCR which the steps outlined will still be the same. Make sure that you have your ADVC-300 device connected and both your computer & device turned on. Keep in mind that some applications such as iChat or Screen Sharing can conflict with your device so be sure not to be running those while doing your capture. Just follow the video tutorial for the rest of this setup.

iWeb 09: Publish Features

iWeb 09: Publish Features With the new release of iWeb 09, many new great features were added. Many of these were requested by iWeb 08 users. Particularly users that have there own web host rather then Dot Mac or Me Dot Com. Now iWeb 09 users can not only publish to there ME/Account but also to a specified folder & ftp/sftp account. Maybe one of the best features is now that when you update your site it only updates the site your working on rather then all of your sites, and to the selection you picked for it.

So if you build sites for others they no longer need to be on you Me/Account they can be saved somewhere else. Another great addition is the FTP upload directly within iWeb 09 is self. This is great if you don’t already have a ftp client of your choice to use.

Feel free to comment or leave your suggestions on iWeb 09.

Have Fun & Enjoy.

Using iWeb Blog or Podcast on Personal Host

Using iWeb Blog or Podcast on Personal Host, Here we will go over a few ways on how to take control of your iWeb site when using the blog or podcast pages on your personal host rather then on dotmac.

When you first create your site you will give it a name for example: Site.
Then you go ahead a create your first page which is usually named Welcome or what ever it may be. Now what we will do it take that first page & rename it to “index” minus the quotes. Go a head & create your pages as normal including your blog & podcast pages. Once you have completed that, we will need to modify a few things.

First of all on a personal host the Search & Comment section is not available to us. So do not include that in your pages. Then if your gonna use the RSS image use your own custom image rather then the default that is used by iWeb due to the way the URL structure is setup then manually add you RSS link to it based on your actual domain name. For example: http://www.My Domain Name.com/Blog/rss.xml same can be done with the Podcast RSS as well.

Now if you want to add a comment section to your blog or any page for that matter you will need to sign up for a free account with http://www.haloscan.com Set it up how you like and use their code to add the comment section to your pages. Now I have modified my code to be able to use any color for the text and pipe bar on my pages so I will provide it below.

< head >< script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.haloscan.com/load/Your-Haloscan-Name-Here"> < /script >

< style type="text/css" >
< !--
.style1 {color: #FFFFFF}
-- >
< /style >< /head >

< a href="javascript:HaloScan('Put Page Name Here');" target="_self" class="style1">< script type="text/javascript">postCount('Put Page Name Here');< /script >< /a > |< /span > < a href="javascript:HaloScanTB('Put Page Name Here');" target="_self" class="style1">< script type="text/javascript">postCountTB('Put Page Name Here'); < /script >< /a >< /body >

iWeb 08 How to Index Your Site

iWeb 08 How to Index Your Site People always ask how can I get my iWeb pages to be index in search engines like google. Well In this tutorial we will be going over as to why your iWeb site is not index by search engines & google. There a two alternative to this, the most simple way would be to create a sitemap for the search engines or to disable the navigation links & manually create the links to each of your web pages. Which in turn will allow for search engines to crawl your pages & index them.

Drive Genius 2: MAC Maintenance

Drive Genius 2: MAC Maintenance This is for those that are looking to increase the performace of their hard drives. This will work on both your boot & connected hard drives.

Using a program from http://www.prosofteng.com/products/drive_genius.php

Called Drive Genius. After running this on my main boot drive & I defrag it, I noticed a system that was more responsive & snappier. While still keeping everything stable. So if your looking to get the most out of your system after long months of usage then surely take a look at this program.

Web Sharing Apache2 & PHP5

Web Sharing Apache2 & PHP5 In this tutorial I will show you how you can take advantage of the built in Apache Server on your MAC OS X “Leopard” install, and show off your web pages to the world not just your own home network.

First you will need to make all files unvisible via terminal type:

defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES

to undo this type:
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO

go to folder path: private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf

and open up httpd.conf with a text editor such as Text Wrangler which is free.

once opened up scroll down the page till you see.

#LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so

and remove the # symbol save your page & restart your Web Server from the sharing pane.

Now your able to view php files not just html files.
