Now if your installing it under the 32bit of Ubuntu then you can install it via terminal that way the package updater will, take care of any new releases for you. Below you will find two links one is for Skype the other for some great note & trouble shooting techniques for Skype under Ubuntu 9.04 from the Ubuntu help forums.

MAC to Linux – Encode Video To OGG OGV

MAC to Linux – Encode Video To OGG OGV In this tutorial I will show you a way to encode video for Linux users that may not want to install players or codecs that support other video formats except for maybe .ogg which is will play by default. Videos are encoded to .OGV format or otherwise known as .OGG to some folks.

Program used is called ffmpeg2theora
Which is a command line program it will also allow you to adjust the video & audio aspects as well as crop your video as well.

Please note that I find the export times to be very long when using large video files.

Available at: http://v2v.cc/~j/ffmpeg2theora/index.html

If you prefer a GUI based MAC version then go here: http://v2v.cc/~j/SimpleTheoraEncoder/

Linux: LAMP as a Test Server

Linux: LAMP as a Test Server This is just a test server that I use for testing only, but it shows how it can be used with Linux Ubuntu running Apache2, MySQL, PHP5, PHPMyAdmin which is fairly simple to install on Ubuntu. That way you can run a local web server running your web pages or even a database for message boards or blogs if you wish to use it in that manner. Also you can run it as a live web server as well but this will all depend on your ISP how you can set things up to go live.
